NUSRET EXERCISE


EXERCISE INFORMATION

  NUSRET Exercise is an Invitation Mine Warfare Exercise which is hosted by Turkish Navy and conducted every year.

  This year’s NUSRET 2015 Exercise will be conducted between 21-27 October 2015 with the participation of Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, USA units, Turkish Naval Forces, Turkish Air Force and Turkish Coast Guard units and observers from various countries.

PURPOSE OF THE EXERCISE

  The purpose is to conduct an exercise that provides training for planning, conducting and assessing the phases of maritime mine warfare with enhancing cooperation and interoperability between allied and friendly nation’s navies.

  The units stated below will be participating NUSRET 2015.

     2. Turkish Air Force:

            Aerial Mine Layer (C-130)

            Air Force Fighter Jets (F-16)        

     3. Turkish Coast Guard:

            3 Coast Guard Boats

      4. 3 mine counter measures vessels from Bulgaria, Greece and Romania, 2 Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Task Units from Bulgaria and Greece and 1 unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) team from USA will be participating in the exercise.

      5. Many observers and staff from 8 countries (Bahrain, Bangladesh, Georgia, Qatar, Republic of Korea, Pakistan, Romania, Turkmenistan) will also be participating in the exercise.        

EXECUTION OF THE EXERCISE

  The mines laid in the areas and routes by air and surface units, will be neutralized using mine hunters/sweepers, mine clearance divers and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units using Mine Counter Measures methods.

   The exercise will be conducted by the Mine Warfare Operation Center onboard
TCG SARUCABEY which will be lead by the Turkish Mine Group Command.

  The exercise will be executed in three phases including port visits, aerial and surface mine laying and mine counter measures operations. .

  Following the mine laying operations and port visits during the first phase, mine counter measures operations will commence. During the second phase, mines will be detected using mine sonars onboard mine hunting vessels, identified and neutralized by mine clearance divers and remote operated vehicles (ROV), moored mines will be swept and recovered by mine sweepers.

  During the third phase of NUSRET 2015, exercise evaluation meeting (Hot-Wash-Up) and Çanakkale port visit will be conducted.

  The exercise will be concluded on 27 October 2015.
